Congratulations to Leilani Farha on receiving an honourary degree from Mount Saint Vincent University!
CWP’s Executive Director and UN Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing, Leilani Farha, will be receiving an honourary degree from Mount Saint Vincent University on November 1st. This honourary degree is being awarded for her work both internationally and domestically on the implementation of human rights for the most marginalized groups, particularly those in poverty.
Leilani is a leading expert and advocate on economic and social human rights. She has a long history of promoting the right to adequate housing, equality and non-discrimination in housing in Canada and abroad. In June of 2014, Ms. Farha was named the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing. She has researched and been published widely on issues related to housing rights, including on forced evictions, and securing land and housing rights for indigenous peoples. As a central dimension in all her activities, she has worked extensively on women’s economic, social and cultural rights.
Mount Saint Vincent University strongly believes in the advancement of women. Since its inception over 140 years ago, MSVU has instilled a strong value for social justice in its students, a value Leilani is proud to lend her name to.
Please join us in congratulating Leilani on this incredible achievement. Add your name to her congratulatory e-card.
